If you fancy the outdoors, you'll go for Gatewood Reservoir. Why not camp at Walnut Flats Campground since you're here at Gatewood Reservoir, and close by you find the Hoof and Hill Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail. Gatewood Dam is not far at all from Gatewood Reservoir. This lake is so wonderful. Not far from Gatewood Reservoir, you'll find Thornhill Pond which is a pretty       lake; Reed Creek has a splendid whitewater paddling spot close by. Dry warm beds await you at Super 8 Ft Chiswell Wytheville Area, and if you came for an overnight stay Fort Chiswell RV Campground is a fine place to camp. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always have a look at close by Hogan Lake, and paddling on Little Walker Creek is so much fun. This lake is so wonderful. While staying at Gatewood Reservoir you could always discover Cricket                  Hollow, and there is a wonderful hiking trail nearby called the Standing Branch Horse Trail. Comfort Inn Max Meadows is a nice place to get some rest, and on a good day you can take a hike along the Pearis Thompson Horse Trail. You get a great vista of Chestnut Mountain from Gatewood Reservoir, and it's a delightful idea to stop at East Fork Indian Grave Creek. Summertime highs at Gatewood Reservoir typically tend to be in the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 50's. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's; throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Gatewood Reservoir temperatures fall to the 20's.
