A great site to take a look at in the neighborhood of Gatewood Reservoir is Cricket Hollow; Chestnut Mountain is a peak you can see from Gatewood Reservoir. A delightful close by hotel is Comfort Inn Wytheville. The yearly rain here at Gatewood Reservoir is about average; through May this area sees the most rain, and November       is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. If you're here at Gatewood Reservoir, you could go to East Fork Indian Grave Creek, and the Pearis Thompson Horse Trail is a perfect hiking trail close by. High temperatures at Gatewood Reservoir all through the warm months are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's with temperatures at Gatewood Reservoir dipping down into the                  20's throughout winter nights. Gatewood Reservoir is wonderful enough to spend more than a day at, Fort Chiswell RV Campground is a wonderful local campground, and Gatewood Reservoir is not the only place nearby, Thornhill Pond is a nearby lake. And that's not all you can do here at Gatewood Reservoir. Near Gatewood Reservoir you locate the Standing Branch Horse Trail which is a great hiking trail; a lake nearby is Hogan Lake. This lake is so wonderful. An exciting thing to have a look at right next door to Gatewood Reservoir is Gatewood Dam, and if you need a place to stay Hampton Inn Ft ChiswellMax Meadows is a good choice.
