While you're here at Elkhorn Lake you will meet lots of people from nearby Staunton-Waynesboro, and get wet paddling on Jennings Branch. This lake is so wonderful. A good nearby hotel is Holiday Inn Staunton-Golf       & Conf Ctr, Va, and there is a splendid hiking trail nearby called the White Oak Draft Trail. Going for a hike on the North River Gorge Trail is always a good adventure, and wonderful water scenery is available at Staunton Dam next to Elkhorn Lake. Don't forget to take a glorious little tour to Broad Run, and whitewater paddling is great on Little River - North R. Tributary. A striking lake like Stark Pond close to Elkhorn Lake is a good spot to stop by,                  and you can stay the night at North River Campground. Be careful coming to Elkhorn Lake, you might not ever want to return home again. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Elkhorn Lake has to offer, you can camp at Stokesville Park Recreational; if you need a site to stay Howard Johnson Express Inn Staunton is a great choice. At Elkhorn Lake you can see Elkhorn Mountain; the Hankey Mountain Trail is a wonderful hiking trail nearby. At Elkhorn Lake through the summer highs are in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's.
