You could also take a look at Rural Retreat Lake while you're here at Cress Lake; it's nearby, and Cedar Spring is a pretty place to stop at while you're at Cress Lake. Camping at Raccoon Branch Campground is always a tremendous experience, and there is a great hiking trail nearby called the Little Dry Run Trail. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a location to stay Comfort Inn Wytheville       is a glorious choice; after a long day outdoors Comfort Inn Atkins is a pleasant place to spend a night or two. A lake nearby is Hale Lake, and you can observe Harvey Knob from Cress Lake. The high level of precipitation makes Cress Lake a pretty wet spot; through the month of July you get the most rain around here; January is the month with the least moisture. Not sufficient hours in a day to enjoy this place. If you crave a little side trip, try Dark Hollow,                  and if the weather is great, you can go for a hike along the Crigger Creek Trail. At Cress Lake during the summer highs are in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 30's with temperatures at Cress Lake dipping down into the 10's throughout winter nights. Get your heart pumping on the wonderful whitewater of New River; a quick spree to Blue Spring Creek is absolutely a splendid idea.
