Rivanna River
 | Last Saturday July 11th,2009 My son and his buddy, both 11 year old decided to canoe the rivanna river . We put the canoe at Shadwell near the bridge and came out at the cross road in Fluvanna county between 53 and 15. The trip took us 7 hours, 4 hours from Shadwell to Crafton and 3 hours from Crafton to Fluvanna court house. I though this could be a good information for the new comer in this area . I couldn't find any information about the time that this trip will take, well I hope this data will help other fellow persons.
PS: It was wonderful experience for everybody... |
Charlottesville Reservoir
 | 10 miles away For years I have been fishing the reservoir, the boat ramp is terrible at the twin bridges, and not enough parking at the dam. Several other fisherman including myself would be more than happy to fix the ramp at the bridges free of charge to the city or county if permission is granted. There is much erosion near the edge of the ramp. Backing your boat in the water is dangerous, trying not to go near the eroded bank. Please call me with a response . THANKS. Beldor Ridge Trail
 | 15 miles away The trail may be fine, but I would avoid venturing too deep into Beldor hollow road. These people have lived here for a very long time, and ''dont take kind to strangers''. Just to give you guys an idea, my father worked as a volunteer fire fighter for the Elkton fire department. They got a call for a fire and took a wrong turn. When they went to turn around they had a car, that was not a car that ran, placed in the middle of the road. Quite a feat. After an altercation with the shotgun wielding locals, they were finally pursuaded that someone could be dying while they werent allowing them out. Finally they moved the car back.
Same for several of the hollows around elkton(pronounced ''hollar'' by the local folk). Beldor, Lynnwood, to a lesser extent thouroughfare area. Also Bryant Hollow can be a little rough if they dont reconize you as well.... |
