When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 50's. Through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's, and overnight lows in the 10's for Big Pond. From Big Pond you get a splendid sight of House Rock; there are wonderful sites to look at along the Warm Springs

| | Mountain Trail. Don't forget to take a splendid little visit to Gulley Run, and you need to pop by Bear Rocks while you're here. And if that's not sufficient, there's plenty more to do close to Big Pond. Get your pulse rate up on the glorious whitewater of Jackson River; going for a hike on the Bear Rock Trail is always a good adventure. This lake is so wonderful. Camping is available at Virginia Power, and you'll stumble on a striking lake called Bath | |

County Pumped Storage Lake. A nice site for whitewater paddling near Big Pond is Back Creek - Jackson Tributary, and why not camp at Hidden Valley Campground since you're here at Big Pond. The high level of precipitation makes
Big Pond a relatively wet place; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain; the driest month is December. This lake is so wonderful. A gorgeous lake like Lake of the Pines next to Big Pond is a nice spot to have
a look at, and don't leave Big Pond without first going for a hike along the Piney Mountain Trail. The slopes of The Homestead are so inviting nobody can resist, and a short spree to Muddy Run Spring is always worthwhile.

McClintic Point Primitive Campground
 | 14 miles away Great spot to settle into for a while. My little family camps there every year in june. Alot to do near the camp site. The best site is right on the lake, walk 15 feet to fish your heart out. Lots to do with the children.... Beautyful CLEAN swimming area and play ground just up the main road and showers available to clean them up at the end of the day. The best part about this site you can get the ''away from it all'' and still have access to a store, pay phone, and verry limited cell phone? service... enjoy!!? Mommy of 2 little 1s... |

Snowshoe
 | 23 miles away Snowshoe has the biggest elevation drop of any skiresort in the region which in my oppinion makes it a realtively great ski resort. You can get more skiing done before you have to get on the lift again. Which I think is very important in a ski resort.... |
