For the duration of the summer here at Big Island Reservoir, high temperatures ordinarily reach the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's; nighttime lows in the 20's for Big Island Reservoir. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Pedlar River, and while you're here you can take a hike along the Sulphur Ridge       Trail. Battery Creek is a picturesque stream that is worth a visit, and a good nearby hotel is Natural Bridge Hotel. Big Island Reservoir is great enough to spend more than a day at, Yogi Bear's Jellystone At Natural Bridge is a great local campground; needless to say, A trip to Harris Hollow is always fun. This lake is so wonderful. There are some great whitewater spots on James River, and do take a hike on the Cashaw Creek Trail. Big Island Reservoir                  sees pretty high levels of precipitation; most of the rain falls during July while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. You believe that's sufficient? Just getting warmed up. Big Island Dam is not far at all from Big Island Reservoir; Sheppe Pond is a nearby lake that you could stop at. This lake is so wonderful. If you came to camp Wildwood Campground is a good place to do that, and you can have a perfect hiking adventure along the Piney Ridge Trail.
