    Big Island Reservoir is a very beautiful lake in beautiful surroundings. Summertime highs at Big Island Reservoir generally tend to be in the 80's with overnight lows in the 60's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Big Island Reservoir. Get covered with water paddling on James River, and a splendid site to camp here at Big Island Reservoir is Wildwood Campground. After a long day outdoors Natural  
   Bridge Hotel is a great spot to spend a night or two; since you're here why not go to Harris Hollow.
This lake is so wonderful. You don’t have to go far from Big Island Reservoir to catch a sight of the water at Big Island Dam, and Big Island Reservoir is not the only place nearby, Cushaw Reservoir is a nearby lake. No way I can stop, cause I'm havin' a splendid time here at Big Island Reservoir. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Big Island Reservoir;
 
               Cashaw Creek Trail is a delightful local trail, and why not camp at Yogi Bear's Jellystone At Natural Bridge while you're here at Big Island Reservoir. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a location to stay Red Carpet Inn Lexington is a great choice; why not take a refreshing hike along the Piney Ridge Trail.
Drift down the rapids of Pedlar River in a kayak, and a lake nearby is Otter Lake. Lots of people from Lynchburg come to Big Island Reservoir. Big Island Reservoir is right by the Sulphur Ridge Trail; some of the water nearby flows, like Battery Creek.
Much rainfall falls at Big Island Reservoir; the month with most of the rain is July, and January is the month with the least moisture.

Not great size untill Balcony falls, Run the falls from just river right of center to river left to avoid a sometimes hidden rock. Great place to surf. River left is a large boulder. if you padle up the eddy of this rock and then murge into the falls you can catch a great wave. Very short rapid so it is perfect for begginners looking to advance thie abilities. Very hard on a canoe....

There is NO WATERFALL at the end, or the middle or the beginning of Balcony FALLS Trail. If you are not interested in waterfalls, then the trail is beautiful, and the climb is invigorating. It makes a good day trip from the city. ...
