    If you are in this part of Virginia make sure to pay a visit to Bedford Lake. Bedford Lake is a rather wet place regularly with a large amount of rain; the wettest month of the year is regularly July, that's the one that rains the most; January on the other hand is the driest. High temperatures at Bedford Lake during the warm days of summer are in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows dip down to the 60's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in  
   the 40's, and overnight lows through the winter for Bedford Lake tend to be in the 20's. Peaks of Otter Wilderness Lodge is a pleasant place to get some rest, and going for a hike on the Hunting Creek Trail is always a tremendous adventure.
That right there is a lot already, but it carries on; Bedford Lake has it all. Stay the night at Yogi Bear's Jellystone At Natural Bridge; there's always Bedford Lake Dam to stop at near Bedford Lake. You'll need more
 
               than a day to look at everything Bedford Lake has to offer, you can camp at Colon Hollow Shelter Campground, and one of the overriding traits of the surroundings of Bedford Lake is Flint Stone Mountain. This lake is so wonderful. Bedford Lake is not the only place nearby, Spring Hill Lake is a nearby lake; North Creek is a good whitewater spot nearby.
There are tremendous places to look at along the Sulphur Ridge Trail, naturally you could also pop by Bedford Reservoir while you're here; it's not far at all. Near Bedford Lake you discover the Terrapin Mountain Trail which is a pleasant hiking trail. This lake is so wonderful. You can run the rapids of James River in the neighborhood of Bedford Lake, and if you're dropping by from Lynchburg, you won't be the only one.
After a long day outdoors Super 8 Motel - Bedford/Roanoke Area is a good spot to spend a night or two; hey, Gunstock Creek is a pleasant local stream.

Not great size untill Balcony falls, Run the falls from just river right of center to river left to avoid a sometimes hidden rock. Great place to surf. River left is a large boulder. if you padle up the eddy of this rock and then murge into the falls you can catch a great wave.
