It's a glorious idea to take a look at Aunt Sarah Spring Creek, it's next to Ashbys Pond, and Ashbys Pond is good enough to spend more than a day at, Wilderness Presidential Resort is a good local campground. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Best Western Central Plaza. Get your heart pumping on the splendid whitewater of Rappahannock River, and do take a hike on the Jackson Trail. But wait, there's more to do close to Ashbys Pond. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Rapidan River; lakes are such calm places, why not have a look

There is also another pit in point at a spot called Elies Ford road, and that is a 14 mile trip great scenery. Also even though it is a class I and II river. It is easier to use a kayak also during the summer you will want a kayak because of the extream low water in some spots....

I came to this web site for information on Motts Run Reservoir. Not to find out what is in the area. Are there boat rentals at Motts Run? If so how much are they. Is Motts Run a park with places to cook and eat? Can you camp there? Do they allow fishing there? Can you go swiming there? Can you bring your own boat?If so are there any limits on size or type of boat. If they allow fishing what kind of fish are there? Are there any restrictions on type or size of fish that can be caught? How do I get to Motts run? What kind of roads am I going to travel on? Is there a phone number that I can use to make reservations if needed? What hours is Motts Run open?...

Whitlock Millpond
18 miles away
Whitlock Millpond (very old maps show it as Hancock's Mill Pond) used to be a beautiful place. It was hard to get to and, as a result, I only visited once when I went fishing there as a child with my father and my grandfather (early- to mid-1960s). It was a wild, snaky place. My grandfather, who lived nearby, told me the dam which fed the abandoned mill had been built by slaves using stone quarried nearby.
Sadly, the dam was breached and the remains of the mill were swept away by the flooding that accompanied Hurricane Camille in 1968. Since then, what was the pond has filled with trees and only a small creek remains. In 2006 I tried to get over to where the remains of the dam are, but the owner of the land I had to cross just looked at me like I had lost my mind. I guess it is wilder and snakier than ever now....

Greenbelt Park
68 miles away
Regular camping fees at this time (06/08) are $16/night. I have been camping at Greenbelt Park every summer for a week for the last 7 years. It was always at $14 up till last year when it went up to $16. Great Park though! Love it!...
