Lake Marion
 | Lake Marion is a very small lake or pond located North of Trial Lake and South West of Star Lake. My friend Victor Montoya and I visited Lake Marion and caught wild Brook Trout and Golden Trout fly fishing. I was surprised that this lake which is very very small had trout over 12 inches.... |
Highline Trail
 | The U.S. Forrest Service last attention to this trail was in 1994/1995 and the trail markings in many places is all but non-existent. Portions of the trail---particularly in the meadows areas have been overgrown and rock cairn markers, where they do exist, are often overgrown and difficult to find. Do not attempt this trail without detailed terrain maps and GPS equipment and the ability to use both. It would also be a good idea to carry a satellite phone (rentals are available) as there is no cell phone signal anywhere along the route from the Mirror Lake trailhead on the West all the way to the Chepeta lake trailhead on the East... |

LaMarla Lake
 | 10 miles away Lamarla Lake received it's name from my mother, Margaret Gurr Hamblin, her sister LaVon Gurr Hansen and LaVar Davies,(nephew of my dad Lyman Duane Hamblin Jr.) They were camping and fishing in the Uinta Mountains. While hiking they came upon the beautiful little lake. They decided to give it a name. They took LA from LaVar, MAR from Margaret, and LA from LaVon, forming the name LAMARLA. They posted the name by the lake. I grew up hearing this story. My mother Margaret passed away over twenty years ago. LaVon is still alive and lives with her husband, Omar in Springville, UT. LaVar is also living and resides in St. George UT. Both are in their eighties. As a child my favorite horse was named Lamarla.... |
Thompson Lake
 | 11 miles away I disagree with below.
1. Thompson Lake isn't even close to the most remote lake in the Uinta Mountains. For example, lakes like East Slide Lake and Wild Goose Lake are far more remote.
2. The boulderhopping really isn't that bad. It's well worth the trip.
3. There are some nice campsites just east of the lake.
Thompson Lake is off trail, but it's one of the more popular off-trail lakes (but far less popular than trailed lakes!) and well worth the trip....This is the most remote lake in all of the Uinta mountains. It's a hellish 1-2hr boulder-hopping steep hike to get to the lake with NO trails or places to camp. Reserved for only extreme mountaineers.... |

Rock Creek
 | 19 miles away (...) The section is comprised of 3 class 3+/IV- drops with swift braided channels in between. It seldom flows since most water is diverted over to the Wasatch front from the Upper Stillwater Dam (it has to spill to be runnable.) Climatologically speaking, March is actually the month of our highest precipitation (which falls as snow, building the pack which then melts in May/June.) Most people find this section of river not nearly as rewarding as other runs in the state.... |
