What a nice lake Spirit Lake is. This lake is one of the great places here in the Uinta Mountains. You completely have to love Spirit Lake. Lakes? Sure, Spirit Lake is nearby, and there are fine locations to discover along the Dry Fork Trail. Spirit Lake is typically a rather arid spot; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain; February is when it's the driest.
Summertime at Spirit Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 80's, and

| | during the night it cools down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's while Spirit Lake nighttime low temperatures throughout the winter are in the 0's. There are other locations here than Spirit Lake, for example Lily Pad Lake, and Spirit Lake Dam is an exciting thing to check out. This lake is so wonderful. Good hiking is available along the Shale Dugway, and a delightful spot to camp here at Spirit Lake is Spirit Lake Campground.

But wait, there's more cool stuff to do in the Uinta Mountains. Camping is available at Hoop Lake Campground. If you come at the right time of year, Uinta River offers some brilliant whitewater; Round Park is a good spot. Having a
good time in the Uinta Mountains is easy. Go for a hike on the Icy Hill Dugway, and if you need a place to stay Best Western Inn is a wonderful choice.

Chepeta Lake
 | Chepeta is a very hit or miss lake. Fishing can be absolutely dead one day and sweet the next. The water was crazy low two summers ago and there may not even be a lot of fish left unless they've planted it since. Worth the trip though -- if one lake is cold another will be hot.... |
Little Elk Lake
| That's a pretty tough road to get there. I'd say about 4 miles in, but lots of big rocks. Great views though. We took ATV's up and it was a fairly unremarkable ride. We did see a couple of 4WD Trucks headed up too. Good scenery up top. I'd like to camp there and hang out. We didn't fish. It doesn't look really good for that.... |
