Do stop by Spirit Lake while you're in this part of Utah. The Uinta Mountains scenery is always beautiful. You just can't picture the amount of outdoors amusing stuff the Uinta Mountains has to offer. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always go to nearby Lily Pad Lake. Through the days of summer here at Spirit Lake, high temperatures regularly get into the 80's with overnight lows in the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 30's; nighttime

The Dry Fork Trail is a good hiking trail next to Spirit Lake, and float down the rapids of Uinta River in a kayak. This lake is so wonderful. Camping at Hoop Lake Campground is always a great experience, and spots like Round Park are brilliant to have a look at. Yep, outdoors fun things to do are in fact plentiful here at Spirit Lake. Spirit Lake gets very little rain; May is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month is February. Whohoo, so many exciting
things in one place! The Uinta Mountains is peerless! If you came to camp Spirit Lake Campground is a fine spot to do that, and nearby you discover the Icy Hill Dugway which is a nice hiking trail. Why not take a look at Spirit Lake Dam if you're here, and going for a hike on the Shale Dugway is always a great adventure.

 | Chepeta is a very hit or miss lake. Fishing can be absolutely dead one day and sweet the next. The water was crazy low two summers ago and there may not even be a lot of fish left unless they've planted it since. Worth the trip though -- if one lake is cold another will be hot.... |
Little Elk Lake
| That's a pretty tough road to get there. I'd say about 4 miles in, but lots of big rocks. Great views though. We took ATV's up and it was a fairly unremarkable ride. We did see a couple of 4WD Trucks headed up too. Good scenery up top. I'd like to camp there and hang out. We didn't fish. It doesn't look really good for that.... |
