This place is peerless, just check out all the enjoyable things to do in the neighborhood of Sand Lake. The Shale Dugway offers hiking at its best; you can take a little visit to Whiterocks Lake Dam since you're here at Sand Lake. There's magnificent hiking along the Dry Fork Trail, and you can stay the night at Paradise Campground. Just can't get enough of the Uinta Mountains. Dollar Lake is a good lake close to Sand Lake; Sand Lake is a wonderful spot to

| | visit for more than one day, Spirit Lake Campground is a wonderful spot to camp nearby.
And if that's not enough there's a heap more enjoyable things to do in the Uinta Mountains. Sand Lake is one of the lakes here in the Uinta Mountains. Throughout the summertime months at Sand Lake highs are mostly in the 80's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 50's. This lake is so wonderful. A pretty lake like Saucer Lake near Sand Lake is a nice place to stop at, and after a long day outdoors Best Western Inn is a magnificent place to spend a night
or two. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Sand Lake; Icy Hill Dugway is a great local trail, and a great place for whitewater paddling is Uinta River. It is very dried out here at Sand Lake generally; all through May this area sees the most rain while February is regularly the driest month.

 | Chepeta is a very hit or miss lake. Fishing can be absolutely dead one day and sweet the next. The water was crazy low two summers ago and there may not even be a lot of fish left unless they've planted it since. Worth the trip though -- if one lake is cold another will be hot.... |
Little Elk Lake
| That's a pretty tough road to get there. I'd say about 4 miles in, but lots of big rocks. Great views though. We took ATV's up and it was a fairly unremarkable ride. We did see a couple of 4WD Trucks headed up too. Good scenery up top. I'd like to camp there and hang out. We didn't fish. It doesn't look really good for that.... |
