Going for a hike on the Chris Otteson Trail is always a great adventure, and after a long day outdoors Best Western Carriage House Inn is a tremendous place to spend a night or two. There are some splendid whitewater spots on San Rafael River; dry warm beds await you at Greenwell Inn & Convention Center. It is very dry here at Russel Pond commonly; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and the       driest month is June. Summertime highs at Russel Pond regularly tend to be in the 80's; the overnight is a bit cooler of course, ordinarily in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's, and throughout the dark hours in the winter at Russel Pond temperatures sink to the 10's. This lake is so wonderful. There is a pleasant hiking trail next to Russel Pond called the Gunnison Trail, and Joes Valley Reservoir - Manti-LaSal National Forest                  is a splendid campground nearby. So much cool stuff to do here at Russel Pond, too splendid to be true. From Russel Pond you obtain a great panorama of Big Hill.
