That right there is a lot of amusing stuff already but it goes on, the Uinta Mountains has it all. If you need a place to stay Best Western Dunmar Inn is a magnificent choice. For the period of the long summer days at Lovenia Lake temperatures are typically in the 80's. Summer overnight lows sink down to the 40's. It is very dried out here at Lovenia Lake frequently; all through the month of April you get the most rain around here, and July on the other hand is the driest. Bald Mountain Campground. This lake is so wonderful. The Notch Mountain Trail offers hiking at its best, and a wonderful spot is The Notch.
You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the enjoyable stuff at Lovenia Lake.
At Lovenia Lake you can see Notch Mountain; a lovely lake like Twin Lakes is a brilliant spot to have a look at. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Lofty Lake Trail, and you don’t have to go far from Lovenia Lake to see the water at Ibantik Dam. The Uinta Mountains scenery is always beautiful.

 | The U.S. Forrest Service last attention to this trail was in 1994/1995 and the trail markings in many places is all but non-existent. Portions of the trail---particularly in the meadows areas have been overgrown and rock cairn markers, where they do exist, are often overgrown and difficult to find. Do not attempt this trail without detailed terrain maps and GPS equipment and the ability to use both. LaMarla Lake

Lamarla Lake received it's name from my mother, Margaret Gurr Hamblin, her sister LaVon Gurr Hansen and LaVar Davies,(nephew of my dad Lyman Duane Hamblin Jr.) They were camping and fishing in the Uinta Mountains. While hiking they came upon the beautiful little lake. They decided to give it a name. They took LA from LaVar, MAR from Margaret, and LA from LaVon, forming the name LAMARLA. They posted the name by the lake. I grew up hearing this story. My mother Margaret passed away over twenty years ago. LaVon is still alive and lives with her husband, Omar in Springville, UT. LaVar is also living and resides in St. George UT. Both are in their eighties. As a child my favorite horse was named Lamarla.... |

Thompson Lake

I disagree with below.
1. Thompson Lake isn't even close to the most remote lake in the Uinta Mountains. For example, lakes like East Slide Lake and Wild Goose Lake are far more remote.
2. The boulderhopping really isn't that bad. It's well worth the trip.
3. There are some nice campsites just east of the lake.
Thompson Lake is off trail, but it's one of the more popular off-trail lakes (but far less popular than trailed lakes!) and well worth the trip....This is the most remote lake in all of the Uinta mountains. It's a hellish 1-2hr boulder-hopping steep hike to get to the lake with NO trails or places to camp. Reserved for only extreme mountaineers.... |
