The beauty of Lodgepole Lake is reason enough to stop by. There's whitewater on Duchesne River for all you thrill seekers, and there's wonderful hiking along the Skinner Cutoff Trail. Lodge at Stillwater is a good spot to get some rest, and East Grandaddy Mountain is simple to spot from Lodgepole Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Good hiking is available along the East Fork Pinto Lake Trail.

The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's, and after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Lodgepole Lake plunge into the 10's. Trail offers hiking at its best.
Now, you may think that's lots but there's even more amusing things to do here in the Uinta Mountains. A pleasant location to check out close to Lodgepole Lake is Hades Pass, and whitewater paddling
is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Rock Creek. You feel that's enough? Just getting warmed up. Places like Brinton Meadow are glorious to explore; camping at Castle Cliffs Campground is always a perfect experience.
At Lodgepole Lake you don’t see much rain; throughout February this area sees the most snow, and June is when it's the driest.
This lake is so wonderful. A scenic lake like Grandaddy Lake near Lodgepole Lake is a great place to have a look at; if you came to camp Splash Dam Campground is a fine location to do that.

LaMarla Lake
| Lamarla Lake received it's name from my mother, Margaret Gurr Hamblin, her sister LaVon Gurr Hansen and LaVar Davies,(nephew of my dad Lyman Duane Hamblin Jr.) They were camping and fishing in the Uinta Mountains. While hiking they came upon the beautiful little lake. They decided to give it a name. They took LA from LaVar, MAR from Margaret, and LA from LaVon, forming the name LAMARLA. They posted the name by the lake. I grew up hearing this story. My mother Margaret passed away over twenty years ago. LaVon is still alive and lives with her husband, Omar in Springville, UT. LaVar is also living and resides in St. George UT. Both are in their eighties. As a child my favorite horse was named Lamarla.... |
Highline Trail
 | The U.S. Forrest Service last attention to this trail was in 1994/1995 and the trail markings in many places is all but non-existent. Portions of the trail---particularly in the meadows areas have been overgrown and rock cairn markers, where they do exist, are often overgrown and difficult to find. Do not attempt this trail without detailed terrain maps and GPS equipment and the ability to use both. It would also be a good idea to carry a satellite phone (rentals are available) as there is no cell phone signal anywhere along the route from the Mirror Lake trailhead on the West all the way to the Chepeta lake trailhead on the East... |

| This is the most remote lake in all of the Uinta mountains. It's a hellish 1-2hr boulder-hopping steep hike to get to the lake with NO trails or places to camp. Reserved for only extreme mountaineers.... |
Rock Creek
| (...) The section is comprised of 3 class 3+/IV- drops with swift braided channels in between. It seldom flows since most water is diverted over to the Wasatch front from the Upper Stillwater Dam (it has to spill to be runnable.) Climatologically speaking, March is actually the month of our highest precipitation (which falls as snow, building the pack which then melts in May/June.) Most people find this section of river not nearly as rewarding as other runs in the state.... |
