So much entertaining stuff to do in the Uinta Mountains, not enough time. Island Lake Dam is beautiful and it's in the neighborhood of Island Lake, and dry warm beds await you at Best Western Inn. Not much rain falls here at Island Lake; during May this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February. This place, the Uinta Mountains, has so much outdoors fun stuff. If the weather is glorious here at Island Lake, you can go for a hike along

| | the Shale Dugway, and sites like Davis Park are nice to check out.
On a great day at Island Lake you can take a hike along the Icy Hill Dugway; Island Lake is not the only place nearby, Pole Creek Lake is a nearby lake. A great location to camp here at Island Lake is Whiterocks Campground, and a lake close by is Larvae Lake. This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at Island Lake you can take a hike along the Dry Fork Trail, and it's a fine idea to explore | |

Johnson Creek.
During the summer months, highs typically are in the 80's at Island Lake. Summer overnight lows fall down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's, and night lows throughout the wintertime
for Island Lake tend to be in the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. Island Lake is one of the lakes here in the Uinta Mountains.
There's just no way anybody can get bored here at Island Lake. Uinta River is a nice whitewater spot next to Island Lake, and camping is available at Paradise Campground.

 | Chepeta is a very hit or miss lake. Fishing can be absolutely dead one day and sweet the next. The water was crazy low two summers ago and there may not even be a lot of fish left unless they've planted it since. Worth the trip though -- if one lake is cold another will be hot.... |
Little Elk Lake
| That's a pretty tough road to get there. I'd say about 4 miles in, but lots of big rocks. Great views though. We took ATV's up and it was a fairly unremarkable ride. We did see a couple of 4WD Trucks headed up too. Good scenery up top. I'd like to camp there and hang out. We didn't fish. It doesn't look really good for that.... |
