The scenery at Island Lake Dam next to Island Lake is charming; a good close by hotel is Best Western Inn. High temperatures at Island Lake during the warm days of summer are in the 80's; the nighttime is somewhat colder of course, generally in the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's with temperatures at Island Lake dipping down into the 0's all through winter nights. This place is unbeatable, just explore all the enjoyable stuff to do next

| | to Island Lake. Stay the night at Wandin Campground, and there's whitewater on Uinta River for all you adrenaline junkies.
Do pop by Bennion Lake near Island Lake, it's a striking lake, and get your heart beating on the wonderful whitewater of Yellowstone River. This lake is so wonderful. The Shale Dugway offers hiking at its best, and Hoop Lake Campground is a great campground nearby. Be careful coming to the Uinta Mountains, you might not ever want to return | |

back home again. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Dry Fork Trail; a scenic lake like Divide Lake is a great place to take a look at.
That right there is heaps of cool things already but it goes on, the Uinta Mountains
has it all. Here at Island Lake you can catch a glimpse of North Burro Peak. This lake is one of the great places here in the Uinta Mountains. It is very dried up here at Island Lake usually; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.

| Chepeta is a very hit or miss lake. Fishing can be absolutely dead one day and sweet the next. The water was crazy low two summers ago and there may not even be a lot of fish left unless they've planted it since. Worth the trip though -- if one lake is cold another will be hot.... |
Little Elk Lake

That's a pretty tough road to get there. I'd say about 4 miles in, but lots of big rocks. Great views though. We took ATV's up and it was a fairly unremarkable ride. We did see a couple of 4WD Trucks headed up too. Good scenery up top. I'd like to camp there and hang out. We didn't fish. It doesn't look really good for that.... |
