High temperatures at Hayes Ponds during the warm months are in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows descend down to the 40's. For the period of the wintertime highs are typically in the 30's; after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Hayes Ponds sink into the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. Avintaquin Creek is near Hayes Ponds and is always a joy to explore, and Avintaquin Canyon is a brilliant location to       stop at. Hayes Ponds is pretty dried up regularly; September is the month that gets the most rain, and March meanwhile is the driest month. Stay the night at Racetrack Campground, and a cool spot to stop at is Strawberry Pinnacles. If you come at the right time of year, Strawberry River offers some great whitewater, and if you need a place to stay Greenwell Inn & Convention Center is a great choice.
