Americas Best Value Inn and Suites-Evanston is a great place to get some rest, and in case you don’t have a problem getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Duchesne River. So much cool stuff to do here at Faxon Lake, too perfect to be true. Naturalist Basin is a picturesque location any time of year; since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always have a look at close by Jordan Lake. This lake is so wonderful. The Skinner

Lakes? Sure, LeConte Lake is nearby; Faxon Lake is a delightful site to visit for more than one day, Butterfly Campground is a delightful site to camp nearby. You'll truly wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the amusing stuff in the Uinta Mountains. Mount Agassiz | |

is beautiful and can be seen from Faxon Lake, and don't leave Faxon Lake without first going for a hike along the Highline Trail. There's brilliant hiking along the East Fork Pinto Lake Trail, and Highline Trail Head Campground is
a perfect local campground. The Uinta Mountains scenery is always beautiful. Faxon Lake is a location that is pretty arid regularly; the month of September is the wettest with most of the rain while January is frequently the driest
month. This lake is so wonderful. For the duration of the long summer days highs here at Faxon Lake get into the 80's; all through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's with temperatures at Faxon Lake dipping down into the 0's through winter nights.

Highline Trail
 | The U.S. Forrest Service last attention to this trail was in 1994/1995 and the trail markings in many places is all but non-existent. Portions of the trail---particularly in the meadows areas have been overgrown and rock cairn markers, where they do exist, are often overgrown and difficult to find. Do not attempt this trail without detailed terrain maps and GPS equipment and the ability to use both. It would also be a good idea to carry a satellite phone (rentals are available) as there is no cell phone signal anywhere along the route from the Mirror Lake trailhead on the West all the way to the Chepeta lake trailhead on the East... |
Thompson Lake
 | I disagree with below.
1. Thompson Lake isn't even close to the most remote lake in the Uinta Mountains. For example, lakes like East Slide Lake and Wild Goose Lake are far more remote.
2. The boulderhopping really isn't that bad. It's well worth the trip.
3. There are some nice campsites just east of the lake.
Thompson Lake is off trail, but it's one of the more popular off-trail lakes (but far less popular than trailed lakes!) and well worth the trip....This is the most remote lake in all of the Uinta mountains. It's a hellish 1-2hr boulder-hopping steep hike to get to the lake with NO trails or places to camp. Reserved for only extreme mountaineers.... |
LaMarla Lake
 | Lamarla Lake received it's name from my mother, Margaret Gurr Hamblin, her sister LaVon Gurr Hansen and LaVar Davies,(nephew of my dad Lyman Duane Hamblin Jr.) They were camping and fishing in the Uinta Mountains. While hiking they came upon the beautiful little lake. They decided to give it a name. They took LA from LaVar, MAR from Margaret, and LA from LaVon, forming the name LAMARLA. They posted the name by the lake. I grew up hearing this story. My mother Margaret passed away over twenty years ago. LaVon is still alive and lives with her husband, Omar in Springville, UT. LaVar is also living and resides in St. George UT. Both are in their eighties. As a child my favorite horse was named Lamarla.... |

Lake Marion
 | 11 miles away Lake Marion is a very small lake or pond located North of Trial Lake and South West of Star Lake. My friend Victor Montoya and I visited Lake Marion and caught wild Brook Trout and Golden Trout fly fishing. I was surprised that this lake which is very very small had trout over 12 inches.... |
Rock Creek
 | 12 miles away (...) The section is comprised of 3 class 3+/IV- drops with swift braided channels in between. It seldom flows since most water is diverted over to the Wasatch front from the Upper Stillwater Dam (it has to spill to be runnable.) Climatologically speaking, March is actually the month of our highest precipitation (which falls as snow, building the pack which then melts in May/June.) Most people find this section of river not nearly as rewarding as other runs in the state.... |
