Around Echo Lake you don’t get a lot of precipitation; February is when you get the most snow here while June is mostly the driest month. Echo Lake is located in the Uinta Mountains. The warmest time of the year at Echo Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. Summer night lows dip down to the 40's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 30's, and night lows throughout the winter for Echo Lake tend to be in the 10's.

| | a visit to Bald Mountain Pass since you're here at Echo Lake, and do set aside some time for Murdock Basin if you're here at Echo Lake. This lake is so wonderful. A great close by hotel is Best Western Dunmar Inn. Near Echo Lake you hit upon the Skinner Cutoff Trail which is a good hiking trail, and Joan Lake is a magnificent lake close by.
This lake is so wonderful. Camping is available at Lilly Lake Campground, and paddling on Rock Creek is so much fun. | |

Yeah, come here to Echo Lake for a brilliant time. A great spot to camp here at Echo Lake is Bald Mountain Campground, and there is a splendid hiking trail close by called the Notch Mountain Trail. Yeah, come up here to the Uinta
Mountains for a splendid time. Lakes? Sure, Gem Lake is close at hand; the Lofty Lake Trail is a good hiking trail close by.
All the outdoors exciting things in the Uinta Mountains will keep you coming back repeatedly. Get dripping wet paddling on Duchesne River; a wonderful vista of wonderful Bald Mountain is available.

Highline Trail
 | The U.S. Forrest Service last attention to this trail was in 1994/1995 and the trail markings in many places is all but non-existent. Portions of the trail---particularly in the meadows areas have been overgrown and rock cairn markers, where they do exist, are often overgrown and difficult to find. Do not attempt this trail without detailed terrain maps and GPS equipment and the ability to use both. It would also be a good idea to carry a satellite phone (rentals are available) as there is no cell phone signal anywhere along the route from the Mirror Lake trailhead on the West all the way to the Chepeta lake trailhead on the East... |

LaMarla Lake
| Lamarla Lake received it's name from my mother, Margaret Gurr Hamblin, her sister LaVon Gurr Hansen and LaVar Davies,(nephew of my dad Lyman Duane Hamblin Jr.) They were camping and fishing in the Uinta Mountains. While hiking they came upon the beautiful little lake. They decided to give it a name. They took LA from LaVar, MAR from Margaret, and LA from LaVon, forming the name LAMARLA. They posted the name by the lake. I grew up hearing this story. My mother Margaret passed away over twenty years ago. LaVon is still alive and lives with her husband, Omar in Springville, UT. LaVar is also living and resides in St. George UT. Both are in their eighties. As a child my favorite horse was named Lamarla.... |
Thompson Lake

I disagree with below.
1. Thompson Lake isn't even close to the most remote lake in the Uinta Mountains. For example, lakes like East Slide Lake and Wild Goose Lake are far more remote.
2. The boulderhopping really isn't that bad. It's well worth the trip.
3. There are some nice campsites just east of the lake.
Thompson Lake is off trail, but it's one of the more popular off-trail lakes (but far less popular than trailed lakes!) and well worth the trip....This is the most remote lake in all of the Uinta mountains. It's a hellish 1-2hr boulder-hopping steep hike to get to the lake with NO trails or places to camp. Reserved for only extreme mountaineers.... |

(...) The section is comprised of 3 class 3+/IV- drops with swift braided channels in between. It seldom flows since most water is diverted over to the Wasatch front from the Upper Stillwater Dam (it has to spill to be runnable.) Climatologically speaking, March is actually the month of our highest precipitation (which falls as snow, building the pack which then melts in May/June.) Most people find this section of river not nearly as rewarding as other runs in the state.... |
