This lake is one of the great places here in the Uinta Mountains. This lake is so wonderful. The Highline Trail offers hiking at its best, naturally you could also stop by Daynes Lake while you're here; it's not far at all. There's pleasant hiking along the Skinner Cutoff Trail, and if you came to camp Butterfly Campground is a glorious place to do that. Around Dale Lake you don’t get a lot of rain; September is when you get the most rain here, and the driest

Mountains if you fancy the outdoors. There's so much to do here at Dale Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Highline Trail Head Campground is a great site for that, and perhaps you're looking for close by lakes? Sure, Jean
Lake is just a very short distance away. There's just no way anybody can get bored here at Dale Lake. Four Lakes Basin is right here at Dale Lake, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend
Rock Creek. This lake is so wonderful. Cyclone Pass is a good place to stop by close by. So many enjoyable things to do here in the Uinta Mountains, too glorious to be true. It's always splendid to pop by Pigeon Milk Spring, and get your pulse rate up on the glorious whitewater of Duchesne River.

Thompson Lake
 | I disagree with below.
1. Thompson Lake isn't even close to the most remote lake in the Uinta Mountains. For example, lakes like East Slide Lake and Wild Goose Lake are far more remote.
2. The boulderhopping really isn't that bad. It's well worth the trip.
3. There are some nice campsites just east of the lake.
Thompson Lake is off trail, but it's one of the more popular off-trail lakes (but far less popular than trailed lakes!) and well worth the trip....This is the most remote lake in all of the Uinta mountains. It's a hellish 1-2hr boulder-hopping steep hike to get to the lake with NO trails or places to camp. Reserved for only extreme mountaineers.... |
LaMarla Lake
 | Lamarla Lake received it's name from my mother, Margaret Gurr Hamblin, her sister LaVon Gurr Hansen and LaVar Davies,(nephew of my dad Lyman Duane Hamblin Jr.) They were camping and fishing in the Uinta Mountains. While hiking they came upon the beautiful little lake. They decided to give it a name. They took LA from LaVar, MAR from Margaret, and LA from LaVon, forming the name LAMARLA. They posted the name by the lake. I grew up hearing this story. My mother Margaret passed away over twenty years ago. LaVon is still alive and lives with her husband, Omar in Springville, UT. LaVar is also living and resides in St. George UT. Both are in their eighties. As a child my favorite horse was named Lamarla.... |
Highline Trail
 | The U.S. Forrest Service last attention to this trail was in 1994/1995 and the trail markings in many places is all but non-existent. Portions of the trail---particularly in the meadows areas have been overgrown and rock cairn markers, where they do exist, are often overgrown and difficult to find. Do not attempt this trail without detailed terrain maps and GPS equipment and the ability to use both. It would also be a good idea to carry a satellite phone (rentals are available) as there is no cell phone signal anywhere along the route from the Mirror Lake trailhead on the West all the way to the Chepeta lake trailhead on the East... |

Scow Lake
 | Is the lake named after my great great uncle Pete Scow who logged in the unitah mtns in the late 1800 and early 1900's. He was a tie hack. Do you know the history of the name Scow lake?... |
Rock Creek
 | (...) The section is comprised of 3 class 3+/IV- drops with swift braided channels in between. It seldom flows since most water is diverted over to the Wasatch front from the Upper Stillwater Dam (it has to spill to be runnable.) Climatologically speaking, March is actually the month of our highest precipitation (which falls as snow, building the pack which then melts in May/June.) Most people find this section of river not nearly as rewarding as other runs in the state.... |
Lake Marion
 | 13 miles away Lake Marion is a very small lake or pond located North of Trial Lake and South West of Star Lake.
