All the outdoors fun stuff in the Uinta Mountains will keep you coming back persistently. Kamas Lake Dam is charming and it's in the vicinity of Castle Lake, and nearby you locate fine locations like Hayden Pass. Just can't get enough of Castle Lake. Castle Lake is not the only location nearby, Pearl Lake is a nearby lake; if you come at the right time of year, Rock Creek offers some brilliant whitewater. The Uinta Mountains scenery is always beautiful.
Yeah,

come up here to the Uinta Mountains for a brilliant time. If you came for an overnight stay Highline Trail Head Campground is a fine location to camp; why not camp at Butterfly Campground if you're here at Castle Lake. Not much precipitation falls here at Castle Lake; during the month of April you get the most rain around here while July is ordinarily the driest month. Going for a hike on the Highline Trail is always a great adventure, unsurprisingly you could also stop
by Bud Lake if you're here; it's not far at all.
This lake is so wonderful. Places like Reids Meadow are nice to stop at, and there are great locations to look at along the Notch Mountain Trail. For the period of the days of summer, highs typically are in the 80's at Castle Lake. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 40's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Castle Lake dip into the 10's. This lake is so wonderful.
Dry warm beds await you at Best Western Dunmar Inn, and close by you find the Lofty Lake Trail which is a splendid hiking trail.

Highline Trail
The U.S. Forrest Service last attention to this trail was in 1994/1995 and the trail markings in many places is all but non-existent.  Portions of the trail---particularly in the meadows areas have been overgrown and rock cairn markers, where they do exist, are often overgrown and difficult to find.  Do not attempt this trail without detailed terrain maps and GPS equipment and the ability to use both.   It would also be a good idea to carry a satellite phone (rentals are available) as there is no cell phone signal anywhere along the route from the Mirror Lake trailhead on the West all the way to the Chepeta lake trailhead  on the East...

Lake Marion

Scow Lake
Is the lake named after my great great uncle Pete Scow who logged in the unitah mtns in the late 1800 and early 1900's. He was a tie hack. Do you know the history of the name Scow lake?...

LaMarla Lake
Lamarla Lake received it's name from my mother, Margaret Gurr Hamblin, her sister LaVon Gurr Hansen and LaVar Davies,(nephew of my dad Lyman Duane Hamblin Jr.) They were camping and fishing in the Uinta Mountains. While hiking they came upon the beautiful little lake. They decided to give it a name. They took LA from LaVar, MAR from Margaret, and LA from LaVon, forming the name LAMARLA. They posted the name by the lake. I grew up hearing this story. My mother Margaret passed away over twenty years ago. LaVon is still alive and lives with her husband, Omar in Springville, UT. LaVar is also living and resides in St. George UT. Both are in their eighties. As a child my favorite horse was named Lamarla....

Thompson Lake
I disagree with below.

1. Thompson Lake isn't even close to the most remote lake in the Uinta Mountains. For example, lakes like East Slide Lake and Wild Goose Lake are far more remote.

2. The boulderhopping really isn't that bad. It's well worth the trip.

3. There are some nice campsites just east of the lake.

Thompson Lake is off trail, but it's one of the more popular off-trail lakes (but far less popular than trailed lakes!) and well worth the trip....
This is the most remote lake in all of the Uinta mountains. It's a hellish 1-2hr boulder-hopping steep hike to get to the lake with NO trails or places to camp. Reserved for only extreme mountaineers....

Continent Lake

I went there about 15 yrs ago fishing was pretty good....

Rock Creek
17 miles away
(...) The section is comprised of 3 class 3+/IV- drops with swift braided channels in between. It seldom flows since most water is diverted over to the Wasatch front from the Upper Stillwater Dam (it has to spill to be runnable.) Climatologically speaking, March is actually the month of our highest precipitation (which falls as snow, building the pack which then melts in May/June.) Most people find this section of river not nearly as rewarding as other runs in the state....
