The Uinta Mountains scenery is always beautiful. At Bennion Lake you don’t see much rain; the month with most of the rain is May, and February on the other hand is the driest. This lake is so wonderful. Thompson Pass is a splendid place to discover; you don’t have to go far from Bennion Lake to make out the water at Island Lake Dam.

| | Island Lake. Man, is there heaps of enjoyable things to do near Bennion Lake. Dry warm beds await you at Best Western Inn, and camping at Hoop Lake Campground is always a great experience.
You absolutely must love the Uinta Mountains. North Burro Peak is uncomplicated to spot from Bennion Lake, and paddling on Yellowstone River is so much fun. Whitewater paddling is great on Uinta River; a good location to camp here at Bennion Lake is Wandin Campground. Man, is | |

there a load of exciting stuff to do in the Uinta Mountains. Take a hike on the Dry Fork Trail, and Divide Lake is a nearby lake that you could have a look at.
Summer brings highs in the 80's to Bennion Lake. Once the sun is down
it falls down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's, and all through the dark hours in the wintertime at Bennion Lake temperatures plunge to the 0's.

Chepeta is a very hit or miss lake. Fishing can be absolutely dead one day and sweet the next. The water was crazy low two summers ago and there may not even be a lot of fish left unless they've planted it since. Worth the trip though -- if one lake is cold another will be hot.... |
Little Elk Lake

That's a pretty tough road to get there. I'd say about 4 miles in, but lots of big rocks. Great views though. We took ATV's up and it was a fairly unremarkable ride. We did see a couple of 4WD Trucks headed up too. Good scenery up top. I'd like to camp there and hang out. We didn't fish. It doesn't look really good for that.... |
