A lake close by is Midway Lake, and Wheeler Lake is great enough to spend more than a day at, Oak Ridge Resort is a great local campground. All the water falling down from the sky makes Wheeler Lake a wet site; through the month of May you get the most rain around here; the driest month of the year is August. A nice nearby hotel is Super 8 Mount Vernon; Little Sandy Creek is near Wheeler Lake and is always a diversion to stop by. At Wheeler Lake throughout

| | the summertime highs are in the 90's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 70's. All through the winter highs are in the 50's; night lows at Wheeler Lake during the winter usually dip into the 20's.
