     If you need a location to stay Hampton Inn Livingston is a nice choice; going for a hike along the Lake Livingston State Park Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. If only every location had this much outdoors exciting things, what a great planet it would be. Cherry Creek is one of the streams nearby that might be worth stopping at, and while you're here, you could also visit pretty Palmer Lake. During the days of summer highs here at Smith  
   Lake get into the 90's with overnight lows in the 70's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 50's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Smith Lake drop into the 30's.
Smith Lake is a wet site that gets a good deal of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily May, that's the one that rains the most, and July on the other hand is the driest. Big Creek RV Park is a nice campground nearby; hiking
 
               along the Mercy Trail is wonderful fun. If you came for an overnight stay Chain-o-lakes Resort is a glorious spot to camp, and Super 8 Livingston is a perfect location to get some rest.
This lake is so wonderful. Sand Lake is a nearby lake that you could pop by, and if the weather is delightful, you can go for a hike along the Double Lake Trail.

I remember living about 3 or 4 dirt roads past the lake coming from the main entrance (somewhere between Elsie's Alley and Rene Ln) when I was a kid (1978-1979), and the place looked nasty back then, as I believe it was a slow development.  Mostly cheap mobile homes, dirt roads and dangerous living, I could't go outside much with all of the snakes that were running loose within easy sight on a DAILY basis.  I wouldn't mids driving through to see what has since become of it, but my memory is remembers this place vividly, and not in a good way....
