So much enjoyable stuff to do at Smith Lake, so little time. The scenery at Smith Lake Dam in close proximity to Smith Lake is scenic; great hiking is available along the Lost Pines Trail. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Smith Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Way Campground is a splendid spot       for that, and the Wildflower Trail offers hiking at its best. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites ELGIN is a perfect location to get some rest. Smith Lake gets a typical amount of annual rainfall; during the month of May you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the months is July. You could also pop by Tuck Lake if you're here at Smith Lake; it's nearby, and after a long day outdoors Days Inn Bastrop is a great spot to spend a night or two. Stay                  the night at Elgin Bird Haven RV Park, and there's glorious hiking along the Northern Loop Trail. At Smith Lake during the summer months highs are in the 90's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 70's.
