     Very fine water scenery is available at Pleasant Retreat Acres Dam in the neighborhood of Pleasant Retreat Acres Lake, of course you could also pop by Hidden Hill Lake if you're here; it's not far at all. Through the summer months, highs commonly are in the 90's at Pleasant Retreat Acres Lake; the night is slightly chillier of course, frequently in the 70's. For the period of the wintertime highs are regularly in the 50's, and winter nights come with lows in  
   the 30's to Pleasant Retreat Acres Lake. So much cool stuff to do at Pleasant Retreat Acres Lake, so little time. A good site to camp here at Pleasant Retreat Acres Lake is #1 RV Park of Tyler, and you'll meet a lot of people from Tyler here.
Float down the rapids of Neches River in a kayak, and you can have a wonderful hiking adventure along the Tyler State Park Trail. After a long day outdoors Windsor Inn and Suites is a nice place to spend a night or
 
               two, and Pleasant Retreat Acres Lake is not the only place close by, Lost Pine Lake is a close by lake. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Baymont Inn & Suites Tyler; Pleasant Retreat Acres Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, Yellow Rose RV is a good local campground.
From a rain point of view Pleasant Retreat Acres Lake is a reasonably common site; the month with most of the rain is May while August is usually the driest month.

...ere's not really any fast water to speak of, but you need to be prepared to make short portages and negotiate downed timber in the water. One area in particular you will need to tie some line off to your kayak and let it float under a downed tree, you crawl over the tree and then get back in. I'm sure the when and where the trees are down changes quite often.... And it looks like someone (probably the river authority) takes a saw down and cuts some of this out from time to time.

The put in location is correct. However, the take out is not. You need to float further down to the 175 bridge (less than 1/4th mile) and get out there.

I would suggest that experienced paddlers attempt this only when the water is high from heavy rains or when the dam is letting a lot of water out. There's vegetative litter stuck in the trees 10 foot above the water line.... So at some points of the year... This thing moves... And could represent dangers with the amount of timber.
