    It's always fun to stop by Pine Lake. From a rainfall point of view Pine Lake is a reasonably normal site; most of the rain falls throughout May; August is when it's the driest. Paddling on Neches River is so much fun; you can have a pleasant hiking adventure along the Jim Hogg State Historical Park Trail. During the warm months at Pine Lake temperatures are regularly in the 90's, and the night is quite chillier of course, mostly in the 70's. All through the  
   winter the highs are ordinarily in the 50's while Pine Lake night low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 30's.
And that's not all you can do here at Pine Lake. Going for a hike along the Mount Hope Tract Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity, and after a long day outdoors Holiday Inn Express Jacksonville, Tx is a good place to spend a night or two. This lake is so wonderful. Lakes? Sure, Stockton Lake is in close proximity.
 
               There's so much to do here at Pine Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Shady Pines RV Park and Campground is a brilliant spot for that. Twin Lakes is a great lake near Pine Lake.
If you need a spot to stay Best Western Executive Inn is a great choice, and you'll almost certainly meet some people from Jacksonville here. Take a side tour to Birches Creek; Pine Lake is splendid enough to spend more than a day at, Castle on the Lake Inn and RV Resort is a splendid local campground.

...ort portages and negotiate downed timber in the water. One area in particular you will need to tie some line off to your kayak and let it float under a downed tree, you crawl over the tree and then get back in. I'm sure the when and where the trees are down changes quite often.... And it looks like someone (probably the river authority) takes a saw down and cuts some of this out from time to time.

The put in location is correct. However, the take out is not. You need to float further down to the 175 bridge (less than 1/4th mile) and get out there.

I would suggest that experienced paddlers attempt this only when the water is high from heavy rains or when the dam is letting a lot of water out. There's vegetative litter stuck in the trees 10 foot above the water line.... So at some points of the year... This thing moves... And could represent dangers with the amount of timber.

You might consider taking a machete on this trip just in case. Don't forget the fishing pole, or if you are an archer, a bow for the huge gar and buffalo. There's plenty of fishin to do .
