This is a glorious area for folks who like lakes. Indian Pond is a lake in close proximity, and if you need a site to stay Best Western Executive Inn is a perfect choice. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop at close by Aligator Lake, and hiking along the Jim Hogg State Historical Park Trail is splendid fun. This lake is so wonderful. From Phillips Lake you get a glorious panorama of White Mountain. That right there is loads already,

| | but it keeps on going; Phillips Lake has it all. The fine folks of Jacksonville like to hang out nearby, and Holiday Inn Express JACKSONVILLE is a good location to get some rest.
For the duration of the warm months highs here at Phillips Lake reach the 90's, and during the night it cools down to the 70's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 50's with temperatures at Phillips Lake dipping down into the 30's through winter nights. This lake is so wonderful. | |

Phillips Lake is a great site to visit for more than one day, Serenity RV Park and Campgrounds is a great site to camp nearby, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Nature Trail. Phillips Lake is a good location of normal rainfall;
of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
R Place RV Park and Campgrounds is a delightful local campground, and a brilliant place for whitewater
paddling is Neches River. Beech Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth visiting, and do take a hike on the Mount Hope Tract Trail.

...oat under a downed tree, you crawl over the tree and then get back in. I'm sure the when and where the trees are down changes quite often.... And it looks like someone (probably the river authority) takes a saw down and cuts some of this out from time to time.
The put in location is correct. However, the take out is not. You need to float further down to the 175 bridge (less than 1/4th mile) and get out there.
I would suggest that experienced paddlers attempt this only when the water is high from heavy rains or when the dam is letting a lot of water out. There's vegetative litter stuck in the trees 10 foot above the water line.... So at some points of the year... This thing moves... And could represent dangers with the amount of timber.
You might consider taking a machete on this trip just in case. Don't forget the fishing pole, or if you are an archer, a bow for the huge gar and buffalo. There's plenty of fishin to do .
