     Hiking along the Nature Trail is wonderful fun, and Lake Jacksonville is a magnificent lake close by. Have a great hiking adventure along the Jim Hogg State Historical Park Trail; a great nearby hotel is Best Western Executive Inn. This lake is so wonderful. Lakes? Sure, Dublin Lake is close at hand. During your visit to Lake Acker you'll meet some folks from Jacksonville for sure; get yourself into a kayak and hit Neches River.
Throughout the days of summer,
 
   highs commonly are in the 90's at Lake Acker, and during the night it cools down to the 70's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 50's while Lake Acker nighttime low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 30's. If you want a great time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Lake Acker. Lake Acker Dam is a place that is close to Lake Acker; Shady Pines RV Park and Campground is a glorious local campground. If you need a place to stay Holiday  
               Inn Express JACKSONVILLE is a good choice; if you came for an overnight stay Castle on the Lake Inn and RV Resort is a great place to camp.
Lake Acker gets a normal amount of rainfall; May is the wettest month with most rain, and July on the other hand is the driest. This lake is so wonderful. Lake Acker is right by the Mount Hope Tract Trail; East Gum Creek is one of the streams nearby that might be worth visiting.

...is a totally do-able float. There's not really any fast water to speak of, but you need to be prepared to make short portages and negotiate downed timber in the water. One area in particular you will need to tie some line off to your kayak and let it float under a downed tree, you crawl over the tree and then get back in. I'm sure the when and where the trees are down changes quite often.... And it looks like someone (probably the river authority) takes a saw down and cuts some of this out from time to time.

The put in location is correct. However, the take out is not. You need to float further down to the 175 bridge (less than 1/4th mile) and get out there.

I would suggest that experienced paddlers attempt this only when the water is high from heavy rains or when the dam is letting a lot of water out. There's vegetative litter stuck in the trees 10 foot above the water line.... So at some points of the year... This thing moves... And could represent dangers with the amount of timber.

You might consider taking a machete on this trip just in case. Don't forget the...
