Beautiful John M Brinegar Reservoir has much to offer visitors. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Mother Neff State Park Trail; paddling on Tonkawa Creek is so much fun. From a precipitation point of view John M Brinegar Reservoir is a reasonably normal place; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and January is the month with the least moisture. Hog Creek
 | 14 miles away Speegleville Road is not a good takeout point. A better trip would start from the low water crossing at Shiloh Baptist Church about 1 mi north of Hwy 185. Go all the way down to Lake Waco, cross the lake NE for 1 mi and take out at the City of Woodway Park at the end of Estates Dr. Total River distance is 12 miles. Water has to be 100-200cfs or better to be navigable upstream of the private road bridge on McLennan Crossing Rd which is 3.5 miles up from the mouth of Hog Creek at Lake Waco. Springtime fishing is good for white bass, largemouth bass, and crappie from McLennan Crossing Bridge to Lake Waco along Hog Creek.... |
