    What a nice lake Hurts Lake is. For the period of the months of summer, highs regularly are in the 90's at Hurts Lake. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 70's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 50's; winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Hurts Lake. This lake is so wonderful. You're sure to bump into some cheerful people from Tyler here, and a good place to camp here at Hurts Lake is Cade's Cove. Highsaw Creek  
   flows through this area; Hurts Lake is nice enough to spend more than a day at, Lake Palestine Campground and Lodge is a nice local campground.
Hurts Lake gets a normal amount of annual rainfall; May is when you get the most rain here; July is when it's the driest. A wonderful close by hotel is Windsor Inn and Suites, and Frontier City Lake is a nearby lake that you could go to. While you're here at Hurts Lake, you could also stop by scenic Frontier City Lake;
 
               get drenched paddling on Neches River.
But wait, there's more to do in close proximity to Hurts Lake. Baymont Inn and Suites Tyler is a tremendous location to get some rest; do schedule some time to check out Caney Bay if you have a chance.

...ed to make short portages and negotiate downed timber in the water. One area in particular you will need to tie some line off to your kayak and let it float under a downed tree, you crawl over the tree and then get back in. I'm sure the when and where the trees are down changes quite often.... And it looks like someone (probably the river authority) takes a saw down and cuts some of this out from time to time.

The put in location is correct. However, the take out is not. You need to float further down to the 175 bridge (less than 1/4th mile) and get out there.

I would suggest that experienced paddlers attempt this only when the water is high from heavy rains or when the dam is letting a lot of water out. There's vegetative litter stuck in the trees 10 foot above the water line.... So at some points of the year... This thing moves... And could represent dangers with the amount of timber.

You might consider taking a machete on this trip just in case. Don't forget the fishing pole, or if you are an archer, a bow for the huge gar and buffalo. There's plenty of fishin...
