You're sure to stumble upon some smiling people from Athens here, and Staway Ranch RV Park is a good campground nearby. Hume Lake is a good spot of normal precipitation; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain, and July is the month with the least moisture. Nearby lakes? Sure, Steele Lakes is in close proximity to Hume Lake, and a delightful close by hotel is Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites ATHENS. This lake is so wonderful. Very wonderful

We are located on route 84 west of Rusk TX. Located 1/2 mile from the Texas State Park. They have a scenic rustic train ride between Rusk and Palestine TX. With the old steam engines. It is an all day trip with a lay over in Palestine so there is time to have lunch at. We advertise the longest foot bridge in the nation here in Rusk TX. There are several Lakes with-in 45 minutes or the Park with Great fishing. We have a quiet park with 41 spaces. Most are shaded, with lots of lawn and grass in the park. All are full hook-up. We have 50 and 30 amp pull through's. We have a rec room with clean toilet and shower we are proud of. We also have a laundry room available for our clients.
We have several restaurants in the local area. We have grocery stores near the Park with a Super Wal-Mart in Jacksonville 20 minutes north of us.

...ar you will need to tie some line off to your kayak and let it float under a downed tree, you crawl over the tree and then get back in. I'm sure the when and where the trees are down changes quite often.... And it looks like someone (probably the river authority) takes a saw down and cuts some of this out from time to time.
The put in location is correct. However, the take out is not. You need to float further down to the 175 bridge (less than 1/4th mile) and get out there.
I would suggest that experienced paddlers attempt this only when the water is high from heavy rains or when the dam is letting a lot of water out. There's vegetative litter stuck in the trees 10 foot above the water line.... So at some points of the year... This thing moves... And could represent dangers with the amount of timber.
You might consider taking a machete on this trip just in case. Don't forget the fishing pole, or if you are an archer, a bow for the huge gar and buffalo. There's plenty of fishin to do .
