     Haverlah Lake is always a pleasure to visit. Not far from Haverlah Lake you acquire some good water scenery at Haverlah Lake Dam, and wonderful hiking is available along the Nature Trail. Life's too short to enjoy all the exciting stuff near Haverlah Lake. Dry warm beds await you at Holiday Inn Express Palestine, Tx, and there are other places here than Haverlah Lake, for example Broughton Lake. If you need a location to stay Best Western Palestine Inn is a  
   perfect choice. Lakes? Sure, Haverlah Lake is close by.
Haverlah Lake gets a normal amount of rain; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily May, that's the one that rains the most; July is when it's the driest. All through the months of summer here at Haverlah Lake, high temperatures ordinarily get into the 90's. Summer nighttime lows descend down to the 70's. Throughout the wintertime highs are mostly in the 50's while Haverlah Lake night low temperatures
 
               through the winter are in the 30's.
Haverlah Lake is a good site to visit for more than one day, HWY 155 RV Park is a good site to camp nearby, and Neches River is a nice whitewater spot nearby. This lake is so wonderful. Palestine RV Park is a nice campground nearby, and you're sure to come across some friendly folks from Palestine here.

...yesterday with a friend. (July 11, 2009) This is a totally do-able float. There's not really any fast water to speak of, but you need to be prepared to make short portages and negotiate downed timber in the water. One area in particular you will need to tie some line off to your kayak and let it float under a downed tree, you crawl over the tree and then get back in. I'm sure the when and where the trees are down changes quite often.... And it looks like someone (probably the river authority) takes a saw down and cuts some of this out from time to time.

The put in location is correct. However, the take out is not. You need to float further down to the 175 bridge (less than 1/4th mile) and get out there.

I would suggest that experienced paddlers attempt this only when the water is high from heavy rains or when the dam is letting a lot of water out. There's vegetative litter stuck in the trees 10 foot above the water line.... So at some points of the year... This thing moves... And could represent dangers with the amount of timber.
