     You'll need more than a day to look at everything Dyer Lake has to offer, you can camp at Colorado Bend State Park, and if you're here why not visit Rye Valley. This lake is so wonderful. Glide down the rapids of Cherokee Creek in a kayak, and a brilliant nearby hotel is Best Western Llano. Yep, outdoors fun things to do are really plentiful here at Dyer Lake. Some of the water close by flows, like Blowout Creek, and do pop by Miller Lake, it's a pretty lake.  
   Go for a hike on the Colorado Bend State Park Trail; you'll find a beautiful lake called Fourmile Hole.
This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Colorado River offers some good whitewater. Shaw Bend is a great place to go to while in the area; the summit of Green Mountain can be observed from Dyer Lake. Dyer Lake gets a normal amount of precipitation; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain, and the driest
 
               month is December.
An out of the ordinary thing to check out close to Dyer Lake is Dyer Lake Dam, and San Saba Municipal Golf Course is a golf course close by. The warmest time of the year at Dyer Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 90's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 70's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 50's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Dyer Lake temperatures descend to the 30's.

Here's a section of Cherokee Creek 6 creek miles above the put in point on 501. Taken from my porch 70' above the water. The flow was 300cfs when taken...
I've lived on the CHerokee above the 501 put in for 6 years. THe usual flow is 10-20 cfs in a good year. However, I have seen it up over 18,000cfs and it came up 32' in 4 hours back in 2004. At anything over 2000-3000cfs be very carefull of the wire, cattle panels, cable, and barbed wire at what we call the water gaps. There's at leat one at each landowner's property line. In a flood they break and trail downstream and may be invisible till you're trapped....................WT Fleming...
