If you need a place to stay Best Western Cleveland Inn & Suites is a good choice; don't forget to take a nice little trip to Gulley Branch. This lake is so wonderful. A good swamp in close proximity to Deer Pond is Button Willow Pond; you can stay the night at Lake Houston State Park.  | 19 miles away I remember living about 3 or 4 dirt roads past the lake coming from the main entrance (somewhere between Elsie's Alley and Rene Ln) when I was a kid (1978-1979), and the place looked nasty back then, as I believe it was a slow development. Mostly cheap mobile homes, dirt roads and dangerous living, I could't go outside much with all of the snakes that were running loose within easy sight on a DAILY basis. I wouldn't mids driving through to see what has since become of it, but my memory is remembers this place vividly, and not in a good way.... |
