    Do stop by Crystal Lake while you're in this part of Texas. There's wonderful hiking along the Mount Hope Tract Trail, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Neches River. Much rain falls at Crystal Lake; the month with most of the rain is May while August is the month with the least amount of precipitation. R Place RV Park and Campgrounds is a great campground nearby; not far from Crystal Lake you obtain some glorious water scenery at Crystal Lake Dam.
 
   Lakes are such serene places, why not stop at Williams Lake close to Crystal Lake, and if you came for an overnight stay Serenity RV Park and Campgrounds is a glorious spot to camp. For the period of the summer highs here at Crystal Lake reach the 90's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 70's. Highs during the wintertime are frequently in the 50's while Crystal Lake nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in the 30's. Yeah, come here to Crystal  
               Lake for a glorious time. Good hiking is available along the Nature Trail; if you're here you will meet lots of folks from nearby Palestine.
This lake is so wonderful. It's a wonderful idea to have a look at Snake Creek, it's next to Crystal Lake; after a long day outdoors La Quinta Inn & Suites Palestine is a wonderful place to spend a night or two. This lake is so wonderful. There are other spots here than Crystal Lake, for example Killion Lake, and Holiday Inn Express Palestine, Tx is a pleasant place to get some rest.

...er to speak of, but you need to be prepared to make short portages and negotiate downed timber in the water. One area in particular you will need to tie some line off to your kayak and let it float under a downed tree, you crawl over the tree and then get back in. I'm sure the when and where the trees are down changes quite often.... And it looks like someone (probably the river authority) takes a saw down and cuts some of this out from time to time.

The put in location is correct. However, the take out is not. You need to float further down to the 175 bridge (less than 1/4th mile) and get out there.

I would suggest that experienced paddlers attempt this only when the water is high from heavy rains or when the dam is letting a lot of water out. There's vegetative litter stuck in the trees 10 foot above the water line.... So at some points of the year... This thing moves... And could represent dangers with the amount of timber.

You might consider taking a machete on this trip just in case. Don't forget the fishing pole, or if you are an archer, a bow for the huge ...
