This lake is so wonderful. Contrabando Waterhole is good enough to spend more than a day at, Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort and Spa is a good local campground, obviously you could also have a look at Tinaja Blanca while you're here; it's not far at all. Contrabando Waterhole is pretty waterless mostly; the month with most of the rain is September, and the driest of       the months is March. Contrabando Waterhole is not the only location close by, Lowes Tinaja is a close by lake, and a visit to Big Bend National Park is recommended. All the outdoors entertaining stuff in close proximity to Contrabando Waterhole will keep you coming back over and over. There are pleasant sites to explore along the Closed Canyon Trail; going for a hike on the Agua Fria Trail is always a delightful adventure. A tremendous place to camp here at Contrabando                  Waterhole is B J Recreational Vehicle Park, and there is a nice hiking trail close by called the Big Bend Ranch State Park Trail. The summit of Contrabando Mountain can be seen from Contrabando Waterhole, and if you come at the right time of year, Rio Grande offers some good whitewater. Through the summer months here at Contrabando Waterhole, high temperatures frequently get into the 100's, and during the night it cools down to the 70's.
