    If you are in Cherokee county it's always a good idea to stop by Collard Lake. Collard Lake is a wet site that gets lots of precipitation; May is when you get the most rain here; the driest month of the year is August. Throughout the summer months highs here at Collard Lake get into the 90's. Summer nighttime lows drop down to the 70's. The winter brings highs down to the 50's, and overnight lows in the 30's for Collard Lake. A fine place to camp here at Collard  
   Lake is Neches Bluff Campground; there's some out of the ordinary stuff to distinguish at Duren Lake Dam in the neighborhood of Collard Lake.
There are splendid locations to look at along the Mission Tejas State Park Trail. That right there is a load already, but it continues; Collard Lake has it all. Bluff Creek is in the vicinity of Collard Lake and is always a joy to stop by, and there is a fine hiking trail close by called the Neches Bluff Trail. Why
 
               not camp at Mouth of Hickory Creek Campground while you're here at Collard Lake, and there are plenty of people from Jacksonville here at Collard Lake.
You could also pop by Bog Lake while you're here at Collard Lake; it's close by, and Best Western Executive Inn is a great site to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful. A lake nearby is Collard Lake, and going for a hike on the Old Tram Hiking Trail is always a great adventure.

Just hiked the 20 mile trail north to south yesterday. Nice terrain, but the trail is in horrible shape. It looks like there has been no maintenence this year. In some parts, brush covering the trail was higher than my head....The Four C's is a beautiful trail, representative of the pinewoods area. Be familiar with landmarks as they can be very tricky....
