     Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always go to nearby New River Lake, and Brushy Lake is a great location to visit for more than one day, Chain-o-lakes Resort is a great location to camp nearby. A great nearby hotel is Hampton Inn Livingston, and not far from Brushy Lake you'll come across Mason Lake which is a pretty lake. Brushy Lake is a reasonably wet place typically with a lot of rainfall; of all the months in a year May is the one with  
   the most rain while August is generally the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. Hiking along the Big Thicket - Big Sandy Trail is tremendous fun. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Brushy Lake has to offer, you can camp at Lake Livingston State Park.
Summertime at Brushy Lake comes with high temperatures in the 90's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 70's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 50's while Brushy Lake nighttime
 
               low temperatures during the winter are in the 30's. And that's not all you can do here at Brushy Lake. Have a good hiking adventure along the Big Thicket - Woodlands Trail, and Super 8 Livingston is a magnificent site to get some rest.
Brushy Lake is right by the Big Thicket - Beaver Slide Trail, and a great swamp close to Brushy Lake is McAnally Break.

I remember living about 3 or 4 dirt roads past the lake coming from the main entrance (somewhere between Elsie's Alley and Rene Ln) when I was a kid (1978-1979), and the place looked nasty back then, as I believe it was a slow development.  Mostly cheap mobile homes, dirt roads and dangerous living, I could't go outside much with all of the snakes that were running loose within easy sight on a DAILY basis.  I wouldn't mids driving through to see what has since become of it, but my memory is remembers this place vividly, and not in a good way....
