    If you are in this part of Texas make sure to pay a visit to Broughton Lake. You simply should love Broughton Lake. Best Western Palestine Inn is a great place to get some rest, and if you're here you can take a hike along the Nature Trail. This lake is so wonderful. The good folks of Palestine like to hang out close by, and not far from Broughton Lake you'll hit upon Haverlah Lake which is a lovely lake. Broughton Lake is a perfect place to visit for more than  
   one day, Palestine RV Park is a perfect place to camp nearby. Lakes are nice; Haverlah Lake is a lake that's near Broughton Lake.
Through the summertime here at Broughton Lake, high temperatures commonly get into the 90's while night lows are commonly in the 70's. Highs during the winter are generally in the 50's; night lows at Broughton Lake through the winter commonly drop into the 30's. Stay the night at HWY 155 RV Park, and the scenery at Broughton Lake
 
               Dam is beautiful.
A splendid close by hotel is Holiday Inn Express Palestine, Tx; there are some wonderful whitewater spots on Neches River. Broughton Lake gets a common amount of annual rainfall; the wettest month of the year is mostly May, that's the one that rains the most, and July is when it's the driest.

...Decided to float this yesterday with a friend. (July 11, 2009) This is a totally do-able float. There's not really any fast water to speak of, but you need to be prepared to make short portages and negotiate downed timber in the water. One area in particular you will need to tie some line off to your kayak and let it float under a downed tree, you crawl over the tree and then get back in. I'm sure the when and where the trees are down changes quite often.... And it looks like someone (probably the river authority) takes a saw down and cuts some of this out from time to time.

The put in location is correct. However, the take out is not. You need to float further down to the 175 bridge (less than 1/4th mile) and get out there.

I would suggest that experienced paddlers attempt this only when the water is high from heavy rains or when the dam is letting a lot of water out. There's vegetative litter stuck in the trees 10 foot above the water line.... So at some points of the year... This thing moves... And could represent dangers with the amount of timber.
