    If you are in Smith county it's always a good idea to stop by Brookshire Lake. Brookshire Lake gets a typical amount of precipitation; May is when you get the most rain here while August is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Neches River, and if you get bored of Brookshire Lake you could also stop at close by Club Thirteen Lake. Dry warm beds await you at Baymont Inn and Suites Tyler, and Brookshire Lake is good enough  
   to spend more than a day at, Noonday RV Park is a good local campground.
Having a tremendous time at Brookshire Lake is trouble-free. Windsor Inn and Suites is a great place to get some rest, and during your journey here you'll meet some folks from Tyler for sure. This lake is so wonderful. There's always Brookshire Lake Dam to go to in the neighborhood of Brookshire Lake, and hiking along the Tyler State Park Trail is brilliant fun.
High temperatures
 
               at Brookshire Lake through the months of summer are in the 90's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 70's. For the period of the wintertime highs are commonly in the 50's, and nighttime lows all through the winter for Brookshire Lake tend to be in the 30's. Tom Clay Lake is a nearby lake that you could stop at. There's so much to do here at Brookshire Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Cade's Cove is a tremendous location for that.

...o float this yesterday with a friend. (July 11, 2009) This is a totally do-able float. There's not really any fast water to speak of, but you need to be prepared to make short portages and negotiate downed timber in the water. One area in particular you will need to tie some line off to your kayak and let it float under a downed tree, you crawl over the tree and then get back in. I'm sure the when and where the trees are down changes quite often.... And it looks like someone (probably the river authority) takes a saw down and cuts some of this out from time to time.

The put in location is correct. However, the take out is not. You need to float further down to the 175 bridge (less than 1/4th mile) and get out there.

I would suggest that experienced paddlers attempt this only when the water is high from heavy rains or when the dam is letting a lot of water out. There's vegetative litter stuck in the trees 10 foot above the water line.... So at some points of the year... This thing moves... And could represent dangers with the amount of timber.
