If you need a location to stay Holiday Inn Express JACKSONVILLE is a wonderful choice, and obviously, this is a good region for folks who like lakes, Lake Palestine is a lake close at hand. Camping at Big Steve's RV Park is always a delightful experience; Best Western Executive Inn is a wonderful place to get some rest. | | Lake Palestine. Blackburn Pond is a good place of normal rain; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain, and the driest month of the year is July.
This lake is so wonderful. What would a place like Blackburn Pond be without out of the ordinary nearby highlights like Anderson Bluff; hiking is a popular thing to do around Blackburn Pond; Mount Hope Tract Trail is a great local trail. That right there is heaps already, but it continues; | |

Blackburn Pond has it all. Good hiking is available along the Nature Trail; the scenery at Blackburn Crossing Dam is picturesque.
During the months of summer highs here at Blackburn Pond reach the 90's, and the night is rather
colder of course, ordinarily in the 70's. For the period of the winter this place gets highs in the 50's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Blackburn Pond. Taking a little journey to close by Blackburn Bay is a great idea,
and getting to Flat Creek from Blackburn Pond is easy. This lake is so wonderful. A nice spot to camp here at Blackburn Pond is Lake Palestine Campground and Lodge, and there are plenty of folks from Tyler here.

...with a friend. (July 11, 2009) This is a totally do-able float. There's not really any fast water to speak of, but you need to be prepared to make short portages and negotiate downed timber in the water. One area in particular you will need to tie some line off to your kayak and let it float under a downed tree, you crawl over the tree and then get back in. I'm sure the when and where the trees are down changes quite often.... And it looks like someone (probably the river authority) takes a saw down and cuts some of this out from time to time.
The put in location is correct. However, the take out is not. You need to float further down to the 175 bridge (less than 1/4th mile) and get out there.
I would suggest that experienced paddlers attempt this only when the water is high from heavy rains or when the dam is letting a lot of water out. There's vegetative litter stuck in the trees 10 foot above the water line.... So at some points of the year... This thing moves... And could represent dangers with the amount of timber.
You might consider taking a machete on this... |
