Stay the night at Shady Pines RV Park and Campground; nearby you come across the Nature Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail. During the months of summer highs here at Bird Pond get into the 90's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 70's. The winter comes with highs in the 50's while Bird Pond night low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 30's. This lake is so wonderful. A fine nearby hotel       is Best Western Executive Inn. There's so much to do here at Bird Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Rusk KOA is a great site for that. Bird Pond gets a great deal of water; most of the rain falls during May; the driest of the months is August. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the cool stuff at Bird Pond. This is a popular place for folks from Jacksonville, and Holiday Inn Express Jacksonville, Tx is a wonderful place to get some                  rest. Getting to Coon Creek from Bird Pond is painless; the Mount Hope Tract Trail is a great hiking trail close by.
