Try Mill Creek, and if you have time, Big Thicket National Preserve is a national park worth a visit. This lake is so wonderful. A splendid close by hotel is Super 8 Kountze Big Thicket Natl Pres Area, and you can stay the night at Village Creek State Park. Ard Lake is a wet site that gets a large amount of rainfall; May is the wettest month with most rain while August is mostly the driest month. Going for a hike on the Big Thicket       - Beech Woods Trail is always a wonderful adventure, and Ard Lake is a good place to visit for more than one day, Red Cloud Recreational Vehicle Park is a good place to camp nearby. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 90's to Ard Lake. Summer nighttime lows descend down to the 70's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 50's; after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Ard Lake drop into the 30's. Lakes are such                  serene sites, why not check out Shade Lake right next door to Ard Lake, and on a great day you can explore Burnt Slough, a swamp close to Ard Lake. Clear Lake is a pleasant lake right next door to Ard Lake, and there are great places to discover along the Big Thicket - Turkey Creek Trail. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this place. After a long day outdoors La Quinta Inn & Suites Lumberton is a pleasant spot to spend a night or two, and nearby you locate the Roy E Larsen Sandyland Sanctuary Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail.
