     Going for a hike along the Mount Hope Tract Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity, and if you get bored of Alligator Lake you could also take a look at nearby Honey Lake. Boggy Creek is in close proximity to Alligator Lake and is always a diversion to take a look at; if you need a location to stay Best Western Executive Inn is a splendid choice. This lake is so wonderful. Neches River is a good whitewater spot near Alligator Lake;  
   Alligator Lake is a great place to visit for more than one day, Big Steve's RV Park is a great place to camp nearby. Alligator Lake gets a typical amount of rain; the month with most of the rain is May; July is when it's the driest.
Hurricane Lake is a nearby lake that you could explore, and dry warm beds await you at Holiday Inn Express JACKSONVILLE. So many fun things to do at Alligator Lake, so little time. Stay the night at Lake Palestine Campground and Lodge,
 
               and you can have a great hiking adventure along the Nature Trail. People from Palestine love to come to Alligator Lake.
All through the warmest time of the year at Alligator Lake highs are ordinarily in the 90's. Summer night lows plunge down to the 70's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 50's, and overnight lows at Alligator Lake during the winter ordinarily descend into the 30's.

One area in particular you will need to tie some line off to your kayak and let it float under a downed tree, you crawl over the tree and then get back in. I'm sure the when and where the trees are down changes quite often.... And it looks like someone (probably the river authority) takes a saw down and cuts some of this out from time to time.

The put in location is correct. However, the take out is not. You need to float further down to the 175 bridge (less than 1/4th mile) and get out there.

I would suggest that experienced paddlers attempt this only when the water is high from heavy rains or when the dam is letting a lot of water out. There's vegetative litter stuck in the trees 10 foot above the water line.... So at some points of the year... This thing moves... And could represent dangers with the amount of timber.

You might consider taking a machete on this trip just in case. Don't forget the fishing pole, or if you are an archer, a bow for the huge gar and buffalo. There's plenty of fish...
