Near Ricker Pond you locate the Bullen Hollow Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail, and obviously Caney Branch       is a wonderful stream that is worth going to. This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling is pleasant on Big Laurel Creek; a round of golf at nearby Kinser Park Golf Course is a good way to kill some time. There's just no way somebody can get bored here at Ricker Pond. Going for a hike on the Margarette Falls Trail is always a great adventure, and paddling on French Broad River is so much fun. At Ricker Pond during the warm months highs are in the 80's,                  and through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's, and after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Ricker Pond descend into the 20's. This lake is so wonderful. The Camp Creek Trail is a splendid hiking trail in the vicinity of Ricker Pond, and Wolf Laurel is a very popular ski area close at hand. Ricker Pond sees pretty high levels of rainfall; through the month of May you get the most rain around here; October on the other hand is the driest.
