    Ponderosa Lake is a very beautiful lake in beautiful surroundings. A good place for whitewater paddling in the vicinity of Ponderosa Lake is New River, and at Ponderosa Lake Dam in the neighborhood of Ponderosa Lake there are some attention-grabbing things to see. Whohoo, so many exciting things in one place! Ponderosa Lake is peerless! A lake nearby is Carter Lake. This lake is so wonderful. If time allows, Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area is  
   a national park worth visiting; Ponderosa Lake is not the only location nearby, Howard H Baker Senior Lake is a nearby lake.
Ponderosa Lake sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is generally March, that's the one that rains the most, and October is when it's the driest. Going for a hike on the Laurel Creek Trail is always a fine adventure, and a nice place to check out is Chambers Hollow. And if you're still looking for more
 
               outdoors entertaining stuff just keep reading. There is a magnificent hiking trail close to Ponderosa Lake called the Racoon Loop; a brilliant place to camp here at Ponderosa Lake is Bandy Creek Campground.
This lake is so wonderful. You can see Smith Knob from Ponderosa Lake, and why not camp at Charit Creek Campground if you're here at Ponderosa Lake. The Cumberland Plateau Mountains scenery is always beautiful. Just can't get enough of the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. Cotton Creek flows through this area; if you need a location to stay Comfort Inn Pioneer is a good choice.
The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Ponderosa Lake with nighttime lows in the 60's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Ponderosa Lake. And if that's not enough there's lots more entertaining things to do in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. Go for a hike on the Deer Loop, and Oneida Golf & Country Club is a nice golf course close by. Pine Creek is a great whitewater spot near Ponderosa Lake, and after a long day outdoors Best Western South Fork Inn is a great site to spend a night or two.

...ig Island, up No Business Creek to the end Of Terry Cemetery Rd. We'll camp the night there, all your gear will be at camp waiting on you. We'll have ''pulled pork barbecue and fixins'', get up to hot breakfast and ride back along the west side of river, up the ''horse ladder'', and along Jack's Ridge to Bandy Creek, and back to the campground. This will be a challenging ride, not for the faint of rump! When we leave the campground, all your gear will be loaded in our trailer, a hauled to the campsite, while you ride. Riders should bring a small tent, sleeping bag or bedroll, if you have a small cot, we can carry that also, a duffle type bag for clothes, grain for you horse, a nose bag for feeding works great also, we will provide grass hay. If you want to carry a cooler with your personal beverages, that’s also allowed. We will have a saddle bag lunch on the trail, and ride into camp, with the fire already going, and the barbecue smokin!

The cost is $100. 00 per rider- bring your own horse

$250. 00 with rental horse

Hidden Passage Trail

Hidden passage trail has a little of something for everyone's liking. This trail with its waterfalls, caves, hemlock forests, rock formations and the unobstructed views of adjacent mountains that seem as if you could reach out and touch them make this a must see and at the top of my list. The trail is moderate/difficult depending on your pace. We started this 10 mile trail at 3:30 pm and finished it at 7:30pm with frequent 10 minute stops along the way but would not recommend this to someone not looking for a workout. This trail can be quite dangerous as you walk along cliff edges less then a foot from the trail. I would NOT recommend taking children on this trail. We hiked this trail in august on a cool day cloudy low 80's. ...
