Laurel Fork Trail
 | 6 PHOTOS Not normally hikers, and middle aged, this trail was a killer. We had a great time, and the scenery was beautiful, but we were worn out. We ran into a copperhead, twice, once on the way up, and again on the way down. Apparently he was guarding his territory. The falls weren't as full as we hoped, but there has been a lack of rain in this area. The trail in some area's were a bit rough, steep, and dangerous, but at least we can say we made it.... |
Red Fork Falls Trail
 | Yes, it is dangerous, I have fallen and slid all the way to one of the small pools after the falls....Hike is very short and falls are very beautiful… You can also camp close the parking area if you want to....my parents took me to red fork falls last weekend. it is beautiful. it is a short hike and very easy to get to. the only problem is the trail brings you out at the top of the falls instead of the bottom. you have to be very careful because the rocks are so slippery. my dad said he knew several people who had fallen from the top and 2 of them had actually died. so be very careful.... |

We love it and it is family friendly!!!...Toe River Campground is managed by some great folks this time around and looks better than we have ever seen it. It is a clean, family safe campground with a river running along the edge. You have to see this one to believe the way things have changed. If you have never been it is worth the trip! ... |
Springmaid Mountain
 | 16 miles away Springmaid Mountain is a beautiful place to visit. Even if you don't like camping they also have cabins. If you go camping, try going in the off season. We went in Sept. 05 and we basically had the campground to ourselves! Even if others were in the campground, the sites are spaced apart. Its a great getaway.... |
