There's whitewater on Little River for all you thrill seekers, and a magnificent place nearby is Cooper Hollow. Laurel Lake is a relatively wet place ordinarily with a great deal of precipitation; throughout March this area sees the most rain while October is regularly the driest month. A great close by hotel is Highland Manor Inn And Conference Center, and on a brilliant day you can take a hike along the Anthony Creek Trail. Lakes are good; Sandy Stand Lake
is a lake that's in the vicinity of Laurel Lake, and if time allows, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a national park worth taking a look at.
There's some flowing water nearby, Briar Branch is a stream you can go to while here, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Vista Trail. Why not stop by Laurel Lake Dam since you're here, and Fry Fields is a beautiful place any time of year. You need to pop by Emert Bluff while you're here at Laurel

Lake. There's so much to do here at Laurel Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Tuckaleechee Campground is a good spot for that.
Now, you may imagine that's a heap but there's even more fun stuff to do here at Laurel Lake. You can run the rapids of Little River in the neighborhood of Laurel Lake, and playing golf is lots of fun at Lambert Acres Golf Course. At Laurel Lake throughout the days of summer highs are in the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 60's. Highs through the winter are commonly in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Laurel Lake.
This lake is so wonderful. Ober Gatlinburg is a wonderful local ski area, and a great sight of lovely Luke Mountain is available. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Dancing Bear Lodge is a perfect choice; Laurel Lake is brilliant enough to spend more than a day at, Timberwinds Log Cabin Rentals is a brilliant local campground. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike along the Rich Mountain Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area, and unsurprisingly, this is a good vicinity for people who like lakes, Lake in the Sky is a lake close by.
Not sufficient hours in a day to enjoy this site. The good people of Sevierville like to hang out nearby; a short journey to Dunn Spring is always worthwhile.

Little River
Correction:
The run described here is actually from the Elbow to the Y. It is incorrectly labeled Elbow to Townsend.

There is another run from the Y to Townsend, but there is a low level Dam about 2 miles from the Y that has to be portaged. This run is about 4 miles. It has Class 2+ rapids at the start and gradually gets easier till it is Class 1 as the trip approaches Townsend....
This is a very scenic run.  The Little River run through The Smoky Mountain National Park along Little River Road. The put-in is 2.6 miles from the Y driving towards the Sinks.  You should go with a group of experience paddlers that have run this section before.  There is a rapid called Mary's Rock that is Class 2+ rapid with a deadly undercut rock that has nearly trapped unaware paddlers under water.  This rapid should be portage by most paddlers.  Advanced paddlers should not have any difficulties making the S-turn that is required to successfully run this rapid. There are probably 8-10 Class 2 rapids to go along with the 5-6 rapids that are Class 2+ or 3.  This run is is runnable in the wet season (Fall to Winter).  You need a minimum 600 cfs on the Little River Maryville gauge....

Hannah Mountain Trail
10 miles away
I can not wait to see the mountain. My family lived there in the mid 1800's and I want to see the area for myself....

Cable Cove Campground
13 miles away
Great campground. Not too big (20 sites?), rarely full. Large tent pads, fire rings with grill tops, a separate charcoal grill, picnic tables, and sometimes 2 lantern posts are set on spacious lots set far off the road with most parking areas big enough to accomidate large RV's. Access to campground and boat ramp is paved the whole way. Water and a primative flush toilet provided. Camping close to the entrance may include noises from the pumphouse at night. Only a quarter mile from boat ramp on one of the most beautiful sections of Lake Fontana. Great canoe-camping. The interpretive trail is probably a little over a mile long. Extensive hiking, mountain biking, and kayaking close by. Closest store is at Fontana Village, about 8 mi. away, and if they're closed, I think that the closest beer is some 30 mi. away in Bryson City. Be farwarned. PLEASE BE COURTIOUS TO OTHERS AND LEAVE BARKING DOGS AT HOME!...
