A visit to Laurel Lake is always a good idea. This lake is so wonderful. You're probably interested in lakes, Sandy Stand Lake is one of those close by; unsurprisingly, all our national parks are delightful sites to explore and Great Smoky Mountains National Park is no exception. Get dripping wet paddling on Little River, and at Laurel Lake you always meet someone from Sevierville. Tuckaleechee Campground is a glorious local campground; if you need a place to
stay Highland Manor Inn And Conference Center is a good choice.
Timberwinds Log Cabin Rentals is a great campground nearby; Fry Fields is a pleasant location to stretch your legs a bit. I can't stop, cause I'm havin' a delightful time here at Laurel Lake. Have a magnificent hiking adventure along the Anthony Creek Trail, and the summit of Luke Mountain can be spotted from Laurel Lake. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the enjoyable things at

Laurel Lake. Gotta ski! Ober Gatlinburg is a great place to do that; if you're interested in cool geologic characteristics try Emert Bluff.
This lake is so wonderful. Laurel Lake Dam is not far at all from Laurel Lake, and Cooper Hollow is in the neighborhood, and is a great place. Hiking along the Vista Trail is delightful fun, and Dunn Spring is a delightful local attraction. This lake is so wonderful. Laurel Lake is right by the Rich Mountain Trail; swing by Briar Branch it's a fine location to explore.
Nearby lakes? Sure, Lake in the Sky is close to Laurel Lake; after a long day outdoors Dancing Bear Lodge is a splendid location to spend a night or two. All through the long summer days, highs regularly are in the 80's at Laurel Lake, and the night is somewhat cooler of course, regularly in the 60's. All through the winter the highs are commonly in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Laurel Lake.
All the water falling down from the sky makes Laurel Lake a wet site; during March this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is October. Drift down the rapids of Little River in a kayak, and enjoy a round of golf at Lambert Acres Golf Course.

Little River
Correction:
The run described here is actually from the Elbow to the Y. It is incorrectly labeled Elbow to Townsend.

There is another run from the Y to Townsend, but there is a low level Dam about 2 miles from the Y that has to be portaged. This run is about 4 miles. It has Class 2+ rapids at the start and gradually gets easier till it is Class 1 as the trip approaches Townsend....
This is a very scenic run.  The Little River run through The Smoky Mountain National Park along Little River Road. The put-in is 2.6 miles from the Y driving towards the Sinks.  You should go with a group of experience paddlers that have run this section before.  There is a rapid called Mary's Rock that is Class 2+ rapid with a deadly undercut rock that has nearly trapped unaware paddlers under water.  This rapid should be portage by most paddlers.  Advanced paddlers should not have any difficulties making the S-turn that is required to successfully run this rapid. There are probably 8-10 Class 2 rapids to go along with the 5-6 rapids that are Class 2+ or 3.  This run is is runnable in the wet season (Fall to Winter).  You need a minimum 600 cfs on the Little River Maryville gauge....

Hannah Mountain Trail
10 miles away
I can not wait to see the mountain. My family lived there in the mid 1800's and I want to see the area for myself....

Cable Cove Campground
13 miles away
Great campground. Not too big (20 sites?), rarely full. Large tent pads, fire rings with grill tops, a separate charcoal grill, picnic tables, and sometimes 2 lantern posts are set on spacious lots set far off the road with most parking areas big enough to accomidate large RV's. Access to campground and boat ramp is paved the whole way. Water and a primative flush toilet provided. Camping close to the entrance may include noises from the pumphouse at night. Only a quarter mile from boat ramp on one of the most beautiful sections of Lake Fontana. Great canoe-camping. The interpretive trail is probably a little over a mile long. Extensive hiking, mountain biking, and kayaking close by. Closest store is at Fontana Village, about 8 mi. away, and if they're closed, I think that the closest beer is some 30 mi. away in Bryson City. Be farwarned. PLEASE BE COURTIOUS TO OTHERS AND LEAVE BARKING DOGS AT HOME!...
